Electronic Engineering

Electronics Engineering is one of the largest and fastest growing industries. It develops a wide range of Electronic gadgets which we use every day in our life to make life easy and enjoyable. Television, remote control, microwave oven, video system, air conditioning system, mobile technology, computer, and many more are all developed as result of the high emerging technology in electronic Industry. As the evolution of electronics industry the devices are made much smaller to handle and cheaper to buy. Electronics has played a major role in the improvising the production of material in Steel, Petroleum and chemical industry and also health care units depend on electronic devices for testing chemical process and to check the body function.

Electronics is a branch of science which deals with the behavior of electrons.

As an electronics Engineer one needs a great determination, spirit and commitment to work for new inventions and to arrive at the solution to a problem affecting the proper functioning of the devices. As an electronic engineer one will be interacting with senior engineers for planning, designing, fabricating, producing and the testing of a complex device where he gets exposure in depth of the field. Basically Electronics Engineer deals with Semiconductors, Diodes, Transistors, Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors which uses small amount of power and also they deal with microprocessors, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Telecommunication, wireless communication, Power Electronics, Embedded systems and many more.If you are interested in inventive and analytical problem solving skills this could be a better career for you to start with. For this you need to have very good grasp of Physics and Mathematics and also practical experience.

Eligibility & Course Area:
To pursue a career as an Electronic Engineer one has to have a degree in Electronics Engineering (BE/BTech.) or should be a Diploma holder in Electronics Engineering. For managerial post one should have a post graduation in business management.

The basic eligibility required to study Electronic Engineering is 10+2 or equivalent examination passed out with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subject. And one has to appear for Entrance Examination conducted by the Board. And Admission to these courses is highly competitive, one who has good academic score and the entrance exam score can make it through to get the admission.

And below is the list of Entrance Exams needs to appear.

  • Admission to Engineering (Electronics) is done on the basis of performance in the Entrance Exam (COMED-K) conducted by the Association of Managements for all the B.E. / B.Arch. courses
  • Admission to Engineering (Electronics) is done on the basis of performance in the Entrance Exam (VTU) conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum
  • And to get the admission in to IIT one has to take up the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam). And for other Institutions through AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) or their own separate entrance exam.

Duration:
The duration of the course is 4 Years for BE / B.Tech courses. And The diploma courses in polytechnics are of 3 years duration.

During the course you will come across following subjects

Career Options:
An Electronic Engineering graduate can enter in to government department for junior post by direct recruitment through advertisement in Employment News Paper. OR through competitive exams conducted by state Public Service Commission and UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for Gazetted post which will be conducted every year.

In the Defense Services, young engineers start as Second Lieutenants. For selection into the Defense Services- Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy applications are invited through National dailies and Employment News.

Similarly vacancies in the private and public sector are advertised through leading daily newspapers of the country and the Employment News. Mostly the candidates are interviewed after thorough scrutiny of their basic inputs and the selections are made on merit. Central Electronics Ltd., Indian Railways, Atomic Energy Commission, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Directorate General Posts and Telegraphs Departments etc are some of the prospective employers in the field. Electronic Engineers can start their own business by manufacture electronic parts, goods and components. He can also start a repair or assembly shop for television receivers, amplifiers, recording equipment etc. Since electronics is a labour intensive and talent -oriented field, it gives high returns for a given initial investment. Loan facilities are offered by banks and Small Scale Industries Development Corporations for starting a business.

Remuneration:
Earnings of an electronic engineer vary with market demand and among organizations. Working experience, qualifications, ability are Important factors in determining the pay level. In India, a bachelor's degree candidate in electronics engineering can receive a starting salary of Rs.7500 up to Rs 15,000 approximately with 1-2 years experience.

Institutes:Indian institute of Technology (IIT's) in New Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur etc are the most prestigious Engineering institutions in India.Other main Engineering colleges include Birla Institute of Technology (BITS) - (Pilani and Ranchi), Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi, and University of Roorkee, Roorkee, Uttar Pradesh etc and the various Regional engineering colleges in different states.
